Cambodia's Annual Water Festival
November 4-6, 2006

The annual Water Festival is an ancient tradition that draws the entire nation together.
The Festival centers around dragon boat races for which each province prepares all year. 
This year 409 different boats manned by approximately
24,000 men competed in the races.

The Festival is an enormous celebration for which the entire city prepares.
Flags decorate the city, strings of lights illuminate the Royal Palace and the surrounding roads,
and cars get towed to make way for the masses of people.

The Festival includes concerts, carnival rides, boxing, and most importantly the dragon boat races!

An estimated additional 1.5 million people flooded the streets surrounding Phnom Penh's river front both day and night.

Every evening of the Festival there is an elaborate firework display and a lighted boat parade.
